Dindigul: V. Jawahar Narayana's 72 helped R.V.S. College of Engineering post a handsome 109-run victory over Sri Krishna Polytechnic College, Batlagundu, in the R.V.S. Trophy Dindigul District colleges cricket league on Saturday.
The scores: R.V.S. College of Engg. 242 for five in 24 overs (B. Karthikeyan 43, V. Jawahar Narayanan 72, G. Sankarkumar 50) bt Sri Krishna Polytechnic College, Batlagundu 133 in 23.3 overs (M. Abdul Rehman 34, A.M. Mohd Rafeek 51, V. Jawakar Narayanan three for 18). G.T.N. Arts College 175 for five in 25 overs (K. Chellapandy 41, P.N. Bhaskaran 40, Rajasekar 50 not out) bt Paarvathys Arts and Science College 44 in 16.2 overs. Ramapratba Arts and Science College 96 in 21.2 overs (S. Manikandan 42, V. Raja Kumar four for 19) lost to Gandhigram Rural University 97 for two in 12.4 overs (D. Gnanasekar 40, S. Sakthivel 30 not out).
Easy for GSSC
G.S. Sports Club registered an emphatic 4-0 victory over John Paul Football Club in the Dindigul District Football Association `B' division league at NMMHSS Ground, Dindigul, on Saturday. K. Robinson (13th and 59th minute), Jeledasan (32nd) and Sasi Kumar (36th) scored.

ACCET wins opener
Host Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology bt Syed Ammal Engineering College, Ramanathapuram 18-25, 25-23, 25-23 in the inaugural match of the ACCET Trophy State-level inter-engineering college volleyball tournament in Karaikudi on Saturday. In another match Sathak Engineering College, Kilakarai, beat B.Tech CECRI 25-12, 25-11.
Double for Ajay
Ajay Selvaraj of Tuticorin bagged a double in the Madurai Union Club's 21st annual open tennis tournament by winning men's singles and men's doubles titles. Ajay Selvaraj, seeded top in both events, was the hot favourite to win both the titles, which he did in style. He beat R. Parivel of Chennai 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 in men's singles, and later partnered E. Boaz of Madurai to beat Somasundaram and Prabhakar of Ramanathapuram 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. In the singles, Parivel gave a good fight and took the first set 6-4. But in the second and third Ajay served many aces. Also his forehand strokes were fluent. He took the second set 6-2 and the decider 6-0. Indra Kumar, Commissioner of Police of Income Tax, gave away the prizes.

Kunal wins title
M. Kunal of Madurai, with 4.5 points, won the title in the open category at the Cholamandalam chess tournament in Mannargudi on Saturday. The results (Open): 1. M. Kunal (Madurai, 4.5), 2. T.V.
