Vendors oppose move to ban arrack sales

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: Arrack vendors on Saturday took out a procession in the city and held a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office protesting against the proposed move of the Government to ban the sale of arrack in the State.

President of the vendors' association Kalyanrappa S. Kattalli in a memorandum addressed to Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey said they had submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy during his visit to Gulbarga on January 8 and asked for a clear policy on the rehabilitation of vendors who would be rendered unemployed in the event of a ban on the sale of arrack.

However, the Government had not responded to the request, they added

He said rehabilitation should include financial assistance for starting self-employment ventures and government employment .
