HONOUR: Former Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University V.B. Coutinho presenting an award to Savita Patil of the Physical Education Department of Gulbarga University, in Gulbarga on Saturday.
GULBARGA: Former Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University V.B. Coutinho on Friday called for setting up an exclusive Physical Education and Sports University in Gulbarga. Delivering the valedictory address at a three-day national conference on "Integrated approach towards physical education and workshop on research in the development of physical education and sports" in the main campus of Gulbarga University here, Mr. Coutinho said it was time that the Government gave serious thought to setting up a separate university for physical education and sports. He said the Government should ensure that physical education and sports was compulsorily included in all schools and colleges and facilities for the same were provided. Mr. Coutinho said the Physical Education and Sports University should be set up in Gulbarga since the weather here was best suited for sports activities and the move would usher in the development of the backward region.
Awards
Mr. Coutinho handed over the award for best research paper presented in the conference to M. Sandhya Sri of Osmania University and the upcoming researcher award to Savita Patil of the Physical Education Department of Gulbarga University. Former head of the Physical Education Department in Bangalore University Vaidyanathan lauded the contribution of Mr. Coutinho to physical education and sports in Bangalore and Gulbarga universities. Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University B.G. Mulimani said quality should be ensured in research work in the Physical Education Department. Chairman of the Physical Education Department Pratap Singh Tiwari proposed a vote of thanks.
