Panchayat members' questions remain unanswered

Staff Correspondent

Phone lines were busy during video-conference with Kumaraswamy

BIJAPUR: As many as 3,500 members of gram, taluk and zilla panchayats on Saturday participated in "samvadha", an interative programme with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy that was telecast live from Mysore.

Bijapur was one of the 176 centres set up across the State, and connected to a studio in Mysore, where Mr. Kumaraswamy and some of his Ministers were stationed. The programme was to commence at 11 a.m. but was delayed by 80 minutes.

Though the image quality was poor, the audio was clear. Members arrived at the centre here with several questions but could not pose them to Mr. Kumaraswamy as all three telephone lines dedicated for the purpose remained busy throughout the programme that went on for an hour and half.

Iranna Reddy, a taluk panchayat member from Shivanagi, wanted to ask Mr. Kumaraswamy to include Bijapur district in the Union Government-sponsored employment guarantee scheme .

Zilla panchayat member from Hasangi segment in Indi taluk Panchappa Kalburgi wanted to invite Chief Minister to Anachi, his native place, or to another flood-affected village on the bank of the Bhima for an overnight stay.
