CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will launch the second phase of free distribution of colour television (CTV) sets to families of the poor and the downtrodden in Tiruvallur district on February 15. Ministers will launch the programme in other districts, an official release said here on Saturday. Mr. Karunanidhi will hand over the sets at Pammadhukulam village. Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan will launch the scheme in Kancheepuram district. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin will participate at a function to be held in Dharmapuri district. Union Minister for Forest and Environment A. Raja will distribute the sets in Perambalur district. Union Minister of State for Finance S.S. Palanimanickam will take part in the function in Thanjavur district.
Postponed
The programme has been postponed in Chennai in view of the re-poll to the Corporation wards slated for February 18. Mr. Karunanidhi launched the scheme on the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on September 15, 2006. A total of 30,000 CTVs were distributed in the first phase.
25 lakh sets
The Chief Minister had announced on Pongal day that 25 lakh sets would be handed over to the beneficiaries in the second phase.
