NEW DELHI: The Centre is working on measures to strengthen the office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities to ensure more effective monitoring of the utilisation of allocated funds in the disability sector and better coordination with the State Governments. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar on Saturday called upon the State Commissioners for Persons with Disabilities to simplify the process for assessment of disability and issue of the disability certificate so that the entire process was completed in a single assigned day. Addressing the sixth meeting of the State Commissioners convened by her Ministry to review the implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act, she urged them to coordinate with the Department of Personnel to make full utilisation of reservation in jobs for persons with disabilities and asked them to strengthen the mechanisms for the redress of the grievances. of the disabled.
