Jan Pratinidhi Manch to form "sangharsh samitis"

Staff Reporter

To work for citizens' rights

NEW DELHI: The newly formed Jan Pratinidhi Manch in the Capital, which will be contesting the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, has announced its decision to organise a series of campaigns across the city to create "sangharsh samitis" and awareness among people about their rights.

A conglomeration of people who have come together to contest the MCD polls, the Jan Pratinidhi Manch is hopeful of posing a serious challenge to the leading political parties. The Manch claims it will offer people a chance to choose their representatives who will work according to their wishes and will be answerable to them on all counts.

Demanding that the city's planning be done in consultation with the citizens, keeping the local demographic conditions in mind, the Manch has declared that it will work for the citizens' right to quality, comprehensive and affordable health services, education for all and the right to livelihood and housing for all.

In a statement, the convener of Lok Raj Sangathan, Prakash Rao, said the Manch had also promised to work for a safe, clean environment with proper disposal and recycling methods for garbage, safe public toilets, special provisions for the health and security of senior citizens, day care and crèche facilities for working women and removal of industries and other sources of pollution from residential areas.

Mr. Rao said the Manch was also committed to candidates being selected by the people from among them at non-partisan meetings called by the Sangharsh Samiti or residents of a ward. Then in a public meeting all candidates of the Manch will have to testify before the people of their ward that they accept the set of standards set by the Manch.
