CoD to probe murder

of MLA's son

Bidar: The State Government has asked the Corps of Detectives to investigate into the Friday's murder of Vijay Kumar Nagamarapalli here. There was a public outcry against the alleged police inaction and possible involvement of the police in the murder. A CoD team, headed by a Superintendent of Police, arrived in Bidar on Saturday and began initial inquiries. Meanwhile, the body of Vijay Kumar Nagamarapalli was laid to result at his native village of Chintaki in Aurad taluk on Saturday. Aurad MLA Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, Agriculture Minister and district in-charge Bandeppa Kashempur, Bidar MP Narsingrao Suryavanshi, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge were present. — Staff Correspondent

Man gets life term

for killing mother

HASSAN: Second Fast Track Court Judge Mahadeva Gowda here on Saturday sentenced Kittu (22) to undergo life imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000 for killing his mother Somu. According to prosecution, Kittu was residing in Chimmikuli Estate Line in Hanabalu Hobli in Sakleshpur taluk in Hassan District and that on February 28, 2003, he slit his mother's throat with a sickle for refusing to give him money. — Staff Correspondent

`Announce loan

waiver in House'

BANGALORE: The Rashtriya Kisan Sangha has accused the State Government was making false assurances to farmers on waiver of farm loans, demanding that the waiver announcement be made during the Legislature session. In a press note, the sangha said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had been only making promises to farmers over the loan waiver. The drought-like situation in several districts had severely affected farmers and loan waiver should be implemented immediately, it said. — Special Correspondent

Shake up of Youth

Congress sought

BANGALORE: Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee vice-president S. Mohandass Hegde has appealed to the party High Command to restructure the Youth Congress by replacing all office-bearers including its president and MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao who had crossed 35 years of age. In a press release, Mr. Hegde pointed out that even those who were 40 were still working as office-bearers of the Youth Congress. He alleged that the Youth Congress had failed to take up protests against the mistakes of the coalition Government.
