CHENNAI: It was much more than just another weekend for participants at `Sadya 2007', the inter-corporate adventure event organised by Vidya Sagar on Saturday.

They climbed rocks, pitched tents blindfolded, and rappelled. Despite the backbreaking exercises, all of them wore a bright smile. They knew it was for a noble cause.

The sixth edition of the annual fundraiser of Vidya Sagar (formerly Spastic Society of India) was held at Mamalla Beach Resort. Each of the 23 participating companies paid Rs. 1 lakh, which would fund upcoming projects of Vidya Sagar, a voluntary organisation involved in special education and rehabilitation of people with special needs, for over two decades.

Teams of managers from these companies got to participate in outbound activities organised and sponsored by Adventure Zone, a Chennai-based outbound HR training company.

The activities included several team building and fitness exercises. A group of 12 friends, all from different professions, got together and helped in organising the mega annual event.

"With sponsorships and other cash donations taking care of incidental expenses such as prizes, food and the cost involved in hosting the teams at the resort, the amount paid by companies is entirely utilised for our projects," said Rohini Ramesh, a spokesperson of Vidya Sagar. Ajuba solutions, Nokia, Allsec Technologies, MaFoi, Orchid Chemicals, Slash Support and Mahindra Holiday and Resorts were among the participating companies. The valedictory of the event would be held on Sunday.
