CHENNAI: Timely intervention by police led to the rescue of a three-year-old boy who was kidnapped from near his house in Alwarthirunagar on Saturday evening.

According to police, they received information that a man wearing red coloured shirt had forcibly taken the child in a two-wheeler from Alwarthirunagar and was moving around in Ashok Nagar area.

Following the information, a team headed by Dr. M. Sudhakar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ashok Nagar, searched various parts of Ashok Nagar.

The police team located the kidnapper with the child hiding in a bush in an open ground in Nagarjuna Nagar 1st Street in the area. Police rescued the child and secured the man.

The kidnapper has been identified as Durai (29) of Nedunchezhian Street in MGR Nagar Market.

He was said to be working in a fast food restaurant. According to preliminary investigations, the child's mother was running a mobile laundry. So there was no question of kidnapping the child for ransom. A senior police officer said that Durai , under the influence of alcohol, had kidnapped the child.
