18,000 policemen to be deployed

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Commissioner of Police Neelam Achuta Rao on Saturday reviewed the security arrangements in the city in the light of the verdict of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal expected on Monday.

He also discussed the arrangements for the Aero India show scheduled to commence on February 7. Also, the State Legislature is in session and the police will deploy 18,000 personnel over the next week.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalakrishna said the Police Commissioner was apprised of the security arrangements to be made in areas that bore the brunt of the violence in the Cauvery riots of 1991.

It was mentioned that the Police Commissioner had directed police stations to hold peace committee meetings involving the Kannada and Tamil-speaking people.

In view of the Legislature session, prohibitory orders will be imposed around the Vidhana Soudha from February 5 to February 9 midnight.
