Autorickshaw driver murdered

Staff Reporter

The body was found near Doddaballapur

BANGALORE: An autorickshaw driver who took four persons in his vehicle on Thursday night was found strangled on Kundana village road, near Doddaballapur, on Friday.

Ramesh (35), the victim, was at home in Chappabandekallu when he received a call. The callers sought a drop saying he could collect the fare from their house in Venkatapura. Ramesh left his house after informing his wife Lakshmi. He did not return. On Friday evening, Lakshmi received a call that her husband's body was lying abandoned on Kundana village road. The Devanahalli police are investigating.

Man attacked?

Was it a robbery or a brawl? The Bytarayanapura police are scratching their heads over the contradictory statements of the victim of an attack and his friend.

According to the victim, Tyagaraj (22) of Hoskerehalli, three persons waylaid him while he was walking with his friend in Hoskerehalli on Friday. When the three demanded money, he told them he did not have any. They apparently stabbed him before fleeing. Strangely, Tyagaraj did not have any stab injuries, only some bruises.

Tyagaraja's friend told the police that the three, all residents of Bangarappa Nagar near Rajarajeshwari Nagar, did not demand money. They just thrashed him. The police said Tyagaraj, who works in a garment factory, was treated in a hospital and discharged.

The police registered a case under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder). The police are looking into whether the incident was a fallout of Tyagaraj's relationship with a colleague working in the factory.

Foiled

Prompt action by a resident of RPC Layout 7th Main and the police averted an attempt to steal sandalwood in his house on Friday. H. Dhanappa, who heard the sound of some people cutting a sandalwood tree, immediately called the police control room. A police patrol team rushed to the spot only to see some people fleeing. The Vijayanagar police are on the lookout for the accused.
