This Day That Age
The building up of an opposition, in a parliamentary democracy, is as essential a part of national reconstruction as planning, according to the Praja Socialist leader, Mr. J.P. Narayan. In a statement in Patna on February 3, he said a national leader should keep an eye on both. Mr. Narayan was elucidating his recent Begusarai speech, in which he had suggested that the Prime Minister should act as a national leader and help in building an opposition, and replying to certain observations on his suggestion made by Mr. Nehru in Madras. "If Panditji is pleased to ridicule this suggestion by asking whether he is expected to nominate the PSP candidates, he is free to do so. That is electioneering and not constructive politics. I am not interested in electioneering."
