CHENNAI: The State Government should take steps at "lightning" speed for ensuring the implementation of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final verdict [to be delivered on Monday], Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss said on Sunday. Noting that Tamil Nadu was denied its rightful share of Cauvery water in the past, Dr. Ramadoss told mediapersons in Sattur that the failure in finding favourable solutions to various issues pertaining to the State's rights was because of lack of unity among political parties in the State. In Chennai, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol.Thirumavalavan urged the Centre to take necessary preventive measures to protect the Tamil minorities residing in Karnataka. Referring to the reported remarks of some outfits in Karnataka that they would not accept the Tribunal's final verdict if it went against the State's interests, he said steps must be taken sincerely to implement the award.
Cauvery Family's plea
Earlier, the Cauvery Family, a forum of farmers and other stakeholders belonging to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, called upon people of the two States to remain calm.
