`Speed up work on projects'

Belgaum: Minister for Horticulture and Belgaum district in-charge Shashikant A. Naik has called upon officials to complete all work on projects taken up for the three-day Vishwa Kannada Sammelana on time.

Mr. Naik, who heads the Reception Committee, said that time was short to complete the work and advised officials heading various departments to speed up things, according to a release here on Saturday.

All these days the Minister and officials were ignoring similar suggestions from Kannada organisations which had pleaded that the Government hold the sammelana in March or April so that there were no shortcoming in preparations.

But the State Government appears to be in hurry, the Kannada organisations had said.

However, under the circumstances where legislators and both Ministers from the district, Mr. Naik and Balachandra Jarkiholi are to be in Bangalore because of the legislature session and therefore cannot physically monitor the progress, the officials were asked to hold a meeting every day at 5 p.m. to review the progress in preparations and work.

Officials have to convey the progress either through telephone or fax to Mr. Naik in Bangalore by 6 p.m. so that he could brief Chief Minister and other Ministers.

As part of the sammelana, the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has announced to conduct a mega bicycle rally to create awareness and build a pre-sammelana ambience in the city on February 10.
