THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has stopped a move on the part of Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) to recruit more than 100 people to five different posts in the institution directly. He did this last week, asserting that the move violated the LDF's declared stand that recruitments to all Government institutions should be done only through the State Public Service Commission (PSC). The PCB had advertised in November last year its plans to fill the existing vacancies in the institution and received thousands of applications. The move was to use the services of an outside agency to conduct the written tests preceding the interviews to select the candidates.
Calls for details
According to top Government sources, the Chief Minister called for the details of the PCB's move last week following complaints that it might lead to irregularities. Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy, under whom the PCB comes, concurred with his view that the recruitments should be done only through the PSC. The file relating to the subject, with the Chief Minister's note to refer the vacancies in the PCB to the PSC, will be placed before the Council of Ministers at its next meeting for final decision, sources said.
