Pre-budget meet rescheduled

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has rescheduled his pre-budget meet with experts, former Chief Secretaries, and representatives of service organisations slated for Monday afternoon. The meeting would be held in the afternoon of February 12, according to a statement from the Minister's office. - Special Correspondent

Hindu Aikya Vedi to observe `black day'

PATHANAMTHITTA: Hindu Aikya Vedi State general secretary Kummanam Rajasekharan has said that the Vedi will observe `black day' on Monday in protest against the new Devaswom ordinance. In a statement issued here on Sunday, he demanded immediate deletion of certain controversial provisions in the ordinance which were "detrimental to the interests of the Hindu society as a whole.'' - Staff Reporter

New Director of Aeronautics

Changes in train services

Coimbatore: Train traffic will be suspended for four hours from 9.15 a.m. on Monday at Coimbatore North station, due to the work of replacing the existing points and crossings on the railway tracks at the station. Consequently, train no.6607 Chennai-Egmore-Mangalore Express will run via Irugur and Podanur, without touching Pilamedu, Coimbatore North and Coimbatore Junction. Passengers bound for Coimbatore, Coimbatore North and Pilamedu will be provided connection at Podanur by train No.3352 Alappuzha-Dhanbad/Tata Express on February 5. — PTI

Thampuratty cremated

Thrissur: The body of Kodungallur Kunhikutty Thampuratty, Communist leader, was cremated on Sunday. She died at her son's residence at Kodungallur on Saturday. She was 84. — Staff Reporter

Government's intervention sought

KOZHIKODE: Hoteliers have warned that the rise in prices of essential commodities would precipitate a crisis unless the Government undertook remedial measures. The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association has suggested that the State Civil Supplies Corporation enter the wholesale market to arrest the rise in price of essential commodities and help the hotel industry. The association said the prices of rice, black gram, pulses and vegetables had increased sharply, pushing small and medium hotels to the brink of a crisis. — Special Correspondent

Folk art festival in Thrissur

Thrissur: The Thrissur Corporation will hold `Nattukalam', a folk art festival, at Thekke Gopura Nada of the Thekkinkad Maidan from February 6. About 600 artistes will take part in the three-day festival, according to Mayor R. Bindu. — Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Greater Cochin Development Authority has termed inaccurate the advertisement in a regional daily about the role of Bluedot Constructions in the construction of Akash apartments. The authority clarified that Bluedot did not have any role in the apartment being constructed on GCDA land. — Staff Reporter
