JUST RELAX ! Yoga and Pranayam class in progress at the Prajapita Brahmakumari Iswariya Viswavidyalaya in Berhampur.

BERHAMPUR: Irrespective of age yoga is picking up among the inhabitants of the city. A two-day district level yogasana competition organised by the Ganjam district Yoga Samaj concluded at the Herambalaya College premises on Sunday. More than 320 participants from various schools took part in this competition to show their skills in performing difficult asanas and mudras.

A 16-day yoga camp organised at Shantikund by the Berhampur unit of the `Brahmakumari Iswariya Viswavidyalaya' is continuing since Feb 1. Children, women and aged persons are also taking part in the camp. Disciples of Swami Ramdev are also holding two-yoga camps in the city this month. Every morning groups can be seen performing yogasanas at Berhampur stadium, Khallikote College Stadium and Medical College ground.

    Root-cause

The in-charge of the Shantikund, Brahmakumari Manju said at their camp the particpants were getting trained in Rajyoga, pranayam and yogasana to develop a holistic approach towards health in the minds of participants.

"Mind is the root-cause of several physical ailments and a calm mind is always a sign of good health. Rajyoga is the path to reach calmness of mind," Brahmakumari Manju said.

National-level Yogasana judge S.S.Senapati, who played a major role in the conduct of Yogasana competition in the city, feels the interest in yoga is returning back among the new generation.

    Great progress

He cites the example of one of his disciples, a physically handicapped child Rashmi Panda, who has become adept in performing asanas like Halasana, Sarbangasana, and Paschimottanasana.

It is hard to believe that this child was unable to walk a few months back.
