RMO assaulted

KURNOOL: Resident Medical Officer of Government General Hospital Srinivasa Rao was assaulted by an irate crowd, which was protesting against the death of a 14-year-old girl allegedly due to medical negligence. The girl was operated upon for removal of uterus two days ago. She developed complications due to congenital defect and died on Sunday.

Govindacharya visit

HYDERABAD: Swadeshi Jagaran Manch leaders K. N. Govindacharya and P. Muralidhar Rao will attend the turmeric farmers' rally in Nizamabad on February 6 seeking remunerative price of Rs. 4,000 and setting up of a board, on the lines of Tobacco Board. Plea to withdraw GO

HYDERABAD: The Tirumala Tirupati Samrakshana Samiti has sought withdrawal of GO 338, which defines the area covered by Tirumala temple as 27.5 sq km and replacing it with a new order revising the area to 338 sq km. The new GO would put an end to propagation of non-Hindu religions atop the hills, S. Lakshmi Devi, of the samiti, said in a statement. - Special Correspondent

4 workers drowned

Kakinada: Four agricultural workers were drowned when a tractor-trailer in which they were travelling from Kamanagaruvu to K. Pedalanka village fell into a roadside canal near Siripalli bridge, under Ayinavilli police station limits in Konaseema region, in early hours of Sunday. - Correspondent

Srikakulam: A Hospital Development Society has been formed with Zilla Parishad Chairman Palavalasa Rajasekhara as its president, Collector V. Awareness programme

VISAKHAPATNAM: Despite being a revolutionary in nature, the Right to Information (RTI) Act would not be able to provide the desired results if the people fail to utilise it properly, Information Commissioner Dilip Reddy said here on Sunday.

Addressing an awareness programme on RTI Act at the Rythu Bazaar in M.V.P. Colony, he urged the farmers to seek their needs. Vizag Journalists' Forum secretary M. Yugandhar Reddy and others spoke.

ELURU: The reported bias by the Information and Public Relations Department in highlighting the role of the officials in the Operation Kolleru programme incurred the wrath of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Sunday. Dr. Reddy, while going round the photo exhibition at the Collectorate, noticed that all the photos on display were Collector-centric and sought to know from the DPRO as to why he failed to ensure due role to the MLAs and MPs.
