KOCHI: A couple at the exhibition stall on tribal culture at Rajendra Maidan were interested in the bow and arrow. Those were one of the exhibits at the stall, others being farming implements and music instruments used by different tribes in the State. Not all exhibits carry tags explaining what they are and the exhibits are not arranged properly, either. But still, the exhibition makes a good introduction to the tribal culture for the urban crowd. The exhibition is part of the ongoing Gaddika 2007, the festival of folk and tribal art and culture. Evenings come alive at Rajendra Maidan with art forms, till now restricted to tribal hamlets. Groups from Wayanad and Attappadi have brought the culinary talents of tribal culture for the Kochiites. It includes chicken curry to chutney to chama rice payasam. The group features names like Easwaran Kani, who has secured patent for his treatment of diabetes, Appukuttan Kani with his steam bath, Sudevan and Pulikkathotti Vijayakumar from Idukki who has cure for cancer, Kaliyamma, Ranga Mooppan and S. Chellan Vaidyar from Attapadi and Kattingalam Kelu, Madathuvayal Kelu and Vellachi from Wayanad. The festival will end on February 8.
