`Give subsidies for electronic meters'

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The State Government should grant subsidies for installing electronic meters in autorickshaws, the Auto Thozhilalar Sangam said in a release on Sunday.

In an appeal to the Government to review the recently announced autorickshaw fares, A.L. Manoharan, Sangam general secretary, said the Government should fix a minimum fare of Rs. 15 and an additional Rs. 7 for every kilometre thereof.

As transition to the new fare system was expensive, the card system should be extended.

The Government should once again convene a meeting of autorickshaw unions to deliberate on fare revisions, he added.
