New excise policy sought

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Toddy Workers' Association has sought a new excise policy, amendment to GO 767 banning toddy societies and payment of ex gratia to the families of dead and injured tappers by the Excise Department, instead of insurance companies.

B. Venkateswarlu, president and J. Narasimhamurthy, general secretary, in a statement criticised the Congress Government for going back on the pre-election promise of boosting trade and sanction of old age pension to tappers.
