HYDERABAD: The B.Ed colleges in the State, with no permanent buildings and denied permission for admission of students, have been given a temporary reprieve by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE). The NCTE has taken a decision to allow admissions for 2006-07 in such colleges if they gave an affidavit to move into permanent buildings within the next six months. It has sent a letter to the State Council for Higher Education to this effect. As per the guidelines and norms of NCTE, a B.Ed college approved by it should construct its own building within three years from the date of approval. The council had issued notices to those B.Ed colleges, which failed to comply with the directive as to why their recognition should not be withdrawn. Following a representation by some B.Ed colleges for additional time, the NCTE stipulated that only those colleges that would give an undertaking by February 5 to move into their own premises in six months' time would be allowed to give admissions. Meanwhile, the State Government issued orders imposing penalty fee on 42 B.Ed colleges that gave admissions to students in violation of rules during the last two academic years and ruled that they would be denied permission for admissions if they failed to pay penalty by February 5. The admissions committee in its meeting on Saturday decided to complete all kinds of admissions in 24 colleges that were included for counselling by court orders. For filling category B seats, time would be given till March 10.
