9,055 candidates take PGCET

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: As many as 9,055 candidates turned up on Sunday for the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) for admissions to postgraduate medical and dental seats in government colleges and 33 per cent government quota seats in private unaided colleges.

Students complained of five spelling mistakes in the question papers of the test conducted by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

As many as 6,823 candidates appeared for the medical test and 2,232 the dental course test.

As many as 800 postgraduate medical seats are available for selection in the four government colleges and unaided private medical colleges.

Only 100 postgraduate dental seats are available in the lone government dental college and private colleges.

The test was conducted at 13 centres across the State, including nine in Bangalore, two in Hubli and one centre each in Mysore and Bellary. The key answers of the questions were put up on the RGUHS website on Sunday. The deadline to challenge the key answers was 5.30 p.m. on February 8, RGUHS sources said.

The Supreme Court recently endorsed the agreement between the Government and private college managements to share the postgraduation seats on a 67:33 ratio. Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy announced on Saturday that the number of free engineering seats (with a concessional fee of Rs. 25,000) would be 25,000 this year. Last year, 21,242 of the 21,981 free seats were allotted for a subsidised fee.
