Gang abducts couple from home

Thiruvananthapuram: A ten-member gang abducted a pregnant woman and her husband from their rented house at Kallattumukku near Kamaleshwaram in Poonthura police station limits on Sunday morning.

The police identified the missing woman as Ayesha alias Sharon Gomez, 19, an MBBS student. The gang allegedly assaulted her husband, Zahir, 22, and dumped him at Kunnukuzhy junction. He has been admitted to the General Hospital with injuries, the police said.

The Poonthura police have registered a case of assault and kidnapping against 10 persons, including Sharon's father, Ouseph Reasons Gomez of Kunnukuzhy, and her brother Shawn Gomez.

According to the police, the couple had eloped and married against the wishes of their respective families in Chennai last year. Sharon is two months pregnant. In his statement to the police, Zahir has expressed fear that Sharon's abductors might forcibly abort her pregnancy. Sharon and Zahir belong to different communities and had been living without the support of their families for the past several months.

The police were yet to trace the pregnant woman, an official said.
