Stray dogs kill five goats

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Even as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is yet to come to terms with the increasing stray dog menace in the city, a pack of stray dogs attacked a herd of goats in HBR Layout near Hennur-Banaswadi on Sunday.

According to a complaint filed by Syed, a resident of Nagawara, 15 stray dogs attacked a herd of goats when they were passing through HBR Layout.

The dogs pounced on the goats and killed five of them. The other goats got scared and ran away and in the melee, three were injured, the complainant said.

Manjunath and Nagaraj, residents of the area, told The Hindu that though there were stray dogs in the area, the civic authorities had done nothing to control the menace.

Manu Baligar, Deputy Commissioner (Health), BBMP, said he had sought a report on the problem from CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action).

He said that the CMC areas were subsumed with the erstwhile BMP and the Animal Birth Control programme would soon be extended to those areas also.
