Faculty development centre

The BMS College of Engineering under the auspices of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme has established a Faculty Development Centre with an aim to orient the engineering faculty in the area of teaching, research and consultancy. K. Balaveera Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of the Visvesvaraya Technological University, will inaugurate the centre on Monday. The cluster-wise faculty orientation programmes of the centre will commence its first activity by orientation for faculty of civil and mechanical engineering clusters from Monday, a press release said.

BMTC's advice to commuters

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has asked commuters using its daily passes to ensure that the conductor checks (ticks) the right date, as they are being misused. The BMTC introduced the daily pass in 2003 to make commuting cheaper and hassle-free. At present, more than 2.3 lakh commuters use the BMTC bus passes, an official release said. However, BMTC had noticed misuse of the passes and suspected the collusion of its employees. The BMTC has advised commuters to affix their signature at the designated place on the pass immediately after purchase and enter their age in the column specified.

Counselling for headmasters

The Department of Public Instruction will hold counselling for headmasters of government high schools who have appeared in the written test to qualify for the post of B.R.C. coordinators under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. A release said that the fifth round of counselling would be held on February 13 at the office of Commissioner of Public Instruction, Nrupatunga Road, Bangalore. Details can be had from the deputy directors of public instruction of respective districts.

Award

M.P. Virendra Kumar, MP and former Union Minister, has been selected for this year's "Best outside Kannadiga" award instituted by "Dehali Kannadiga", a Kannada monthly published from Delhi. C.P. Swarnakar, chairman and managing director of Syndicate Bank, has been chosen for "T.A. Pai Memorial Best Banker" award, while M.S. Rajan, former professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been chose for "Best Delhi Kannadiga" award. M.B. Samaga, editor of the magazine, said that the awards, including a citation and plaque, would be given away at the 24th National Kannada Sammelan to be held at New Delhi on April 7.
