BANGALORE: Infosys chief mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy has urged students to address the challenges of inequality in development when they grow up.

Despite India's achievements in various fields, 215 million people in the country did not even have access to safe drinking water, he told the graduating students of Bishop Cotton Boys' School here on Sunday.

The world was looking up to India. The country was marching ahead with energy and hope. But many regions had not received encouragement of any kind, he said.

Children would look for heroes when they join school. Teachers had to demonstrate honesty, conviction and other virtues to them, Mr. Murthy said.

Mr. Murthy urged the students to achieve success through determination, dedication and discipline, and to have faith in themselves. Bishop Cotton School had produced many luminaries such as General Thimmaiah and Nandan Nilekani, he said.

As many as 429 students graduated from the school. Among them, 255 have cleared the 10th standard examination and the rest the 12th standard examination.

Outgoing school captain Maneesh V. Kuruvilla, head of Day Scholars Nishok David and Raashid L. Navlakhi, a student of 10th standard, delivered farewell speeches.

Maneesh handed over the mantle of leadership to the school captain-designate Aneesh Shetty.

Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murthy distributed the special awards. Kuruvilla got the Captain's Medal and Special Award while Nishok was presented the Maiden Cup.

School principal Col. John Ellis delivered the welcome address.
