Man arrested in abduction case

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old man allegedly involved in an abduction case was arrested at Dilshad Garden by the Anti Auto-theft Squad of the North-East Delhi police on Saturday. The police claimed to have recovered a stolen motorcycle from his possession.

The police received a tip-off that a criminal carrying a reward of Rs.10,000 on his head for his alleged involvement in an abduction case would pass by Dilshad Garden on a stolen motorcycle. Subsequently, the police laid a trap and intercepted the suspect. He was arrested with the motorcycle that was stolen from Chandni Mahal about a month ago.

During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Imamuddin and purportedly confessed to his involvement in the abduction of a 17-year-old girl from Dilshad Garden last April. He then went underground and began residing at Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh under a fictitious name, Ravi.

Public booth owner robbed

NEW DELHI: A public booth owner and one of his customers were robbed of their belongings by four persons at Shalimar Garden in neighbouring Sahibabad on Saturday. The victims alleged that the police were not registering the case.

According to the booth owner, Vishwanath, the incident took place in the evening when four persons entered his booth and trained a firearm on him. They asked him and the customer to hand over all their valuables. "They took away Rs.12,000 in cash, rings and a chain. I have reported the matter to the police but they are not registering the case," alleged Vishwanath.

British award for engineer

NEW DELHI: K.V. Radhakrishnan, executive member of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London, was recently awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the British Government.

This was in recognition of his work with the Indian community in the U.K. The Minister for Culture and Sport, Tessa Jowell, presented the award to Mr. Radhakrishnan at a function at her office in London last December.

The award carries a medal and a citation signed by the Queen.

An engineer by profession, Mr. Radhakrishnan, as chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan building sub-committee, had made his expertise available to the Bhavan for the modernisation of its building. From Thalasseri in North Kerala, he is the son of well-known social worker and writer C. K. Revathi Amma.

Man held under Arms Act

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man has been arrested at Kotwali in North Delhi on charges of carrying a country-made firearm.

The accused, Pappu, was spotted near Vijay Ghat loitering about under suspicious circumstances. A police patrol team intercepted him and on his personal search recovered a country-made pistol. Subsequently, he was arrested and booked under the Arms Act.
