Police firing range to be set up at Samayanallur

MADURAI: A new police firing range will be developed at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh at Samayanallur soon, the Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare, A. Tamizharasi, has said.

Speaking after inaugurating a new building that would house the Avaniapuram police station here on Sunday, she said the Government had allocated Rs. 68 crore for the modernisation of the police force.

At least 69 new buildings would be constructed for police establishments in different districts.

It was during the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime that Police Commissions were constituted, she said. The Inspector-General of Police (South Zone), Sanjeev Kumar, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Madurai Range), N. Chenbaharaman, the Samayanallur MLA, P. Moorthy, among others spoke.

The Madurai Superintendent of Police, T.S. Anbu, said the police out-post at Appan Tirupathi would soon be upgraded into a full-fledged police station.
