dated February 6, 1957: Tyre unit near Madras

A factory in the private sector for the manufacture of tyres is proposed to be established near Madras. To discuss the proposal, five representatives of the Dunlop Tyre Company met Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam, Minister for Industries, on February 4 at the Secretariat and held discussions with him. The proposal is to have a factory located between Ambattur and Korattur at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crores, if the Madras Government offer facilities for its establishment, particularly in acquiring about 120 acres of private land for sinking wells for water supply. The tests carried out at the place have proved adequate availability of water required by the factory for the production of tyres. The Minister assured the representatives that the Government would provide facilities both in making available Government land for the location of the factory and the acquisition of private land required by the company. He said the factory would provide employment to about 1,000 persons.
