BELLARY: Activists of the district unit of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) staged a demonstration here on Monday against the agreement to share engineering seats in the ratio of 55:45 between the Government and managements of private professional colleges. They burnt an effigy of the State Government. The SFI said the agreement would affect the poor meritorious students.
Demand
In order to safeguard the interests of students, especially poor, it demanded that the Government conduct one Common Entrance Test to fill all seats in professional colleges. The Government should adopt 75:25 seating sharing ratio in all professional courses, the SFI said.
New colleges
It should start new professional colleges ever necessary and ensure that the fee structure for professional courses would be within the reach of the poor, the SFI said. The Government should allocate 30 per cent of the budgetary allocation to the growth of the education sector, the SFI said. Hulli Umesh, secretary of the district unit of the SFI, led the activists.
