NEW DELHI: Undeterred by the criticism over the two-month ban on AXN channel, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priyaranjan Dasmunsi on Monday said a couple of other channels were also under watch. He pointed out that the Government ordered action only against one of the 290 channels on air. Briefing mediapersons at the Editors' Conference on Social Sector Issues here, the Minister said action had been taken against the channel only after it ignored warnings from the Ministry about some objectionable content. "We usually give channels time to correct themselves and conform to the Programme and Advertising Code," he said. The channel has since apologised for airing the serialised programme titled "The World's Sexiest Advertisement." As to whether the ministry would consider lifting the ban before March 15 when the two-month-long penalty period is due to end Mr. Dasmunsi said the matter was under review. The Government was not eager to act as a moral police force, the Minister said. Channels also need to act responsibly.
