3 hurt in blast at Kamakhyaguri rail station

Kolkata: Three persons were injured when a bomb exploded at the Kamakhyaguri railway station in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district on Monday, four minutes after the Kamrup Express passed through on Monday afternoon.

"It is suspected that some high explosive was used," said Raj Kanojia, Inspector-General (Law and Order). A technical enquiry would determine the nature of explosives used.

"It might be similar to the earlier blast," he said, referring to the November 20, 2006 bomb explosion aboard a compartment at Belakoba in Jalpaiguri district, in which seven persons were killed.

The involvement of insurgent groups operating in the area could not be ruled out, Mr. Kanojia said.

Train services were not disrupted as the track was not damaged, said Trikal Rabha, North East Frontier Railway spokesman. The injured, two hawkers and a local resident, were being treated in the Alipurduar sub-divisional hospital.
