"MISE-EN-SCENE": Students' film festival
NEW DELHI: It is an attempt to celebrate movies made by students of mass media and also to offer a platform for greenhorns in filmmaking to show their talent to the world. Encouraging students to dream, think and communicate with their camera, the third edition of "Mise-en-Scene", the international students' film festival of Delhi University's Indraprastha College for Women, was launched here on Monday. Several colleges and institutions from a dozen countries including the United States, Australia, Switzerland, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are taking part in the three-day event being held on the college campus. Bollywood personality Leena Yadav, who directed Aishwarya Rai and Sanjay Dutt in her maiden film "Shabd", inaugurated the festival while John Webb of the Australian High Commission here was the guest of honour. The festival, organised by the Department of Mass Media and Mass Communication of IP College, will screen about 50 short and long films of different genres like fiction, non- fiction and animation. The movies have been directed by students from various institutions like London Film Academy; School of Liberal Arts, Pakistan; Film School Zlin, Czech Republic; Savannah College, US; University of Pune; Indian Institute of Journalism; and New Media, Bangalore, among others. The event also provides the students a chance to watch meaningful films and interact with professionals in the field. On the first day, seven movies directed by independent filmmakers like Anand Gandhi, Sarnath Banerjee and Vandana Kohli were screened for them. Students can also participate in various contests like film quiz, cartoon making, ad mad, on-the-spot photography and filmmaking competitions that will be organised during the festival. In the on-the-spot filmmaking contest that was held on Monday, topics were given to participants on the spot and they were required to shoot the film within two hours. The winners for all the events will be felicitated on Wednesday, the last day of the festival.
Exchange programme
As part of a student exchange programme between IP College and Deakin University of Australia, four students are doing their internship with the college during this film festival and are actively involved in making the film on the department, designing posters, getting sponsors for the event and creating the website www.ipfilmfest.com.
