WARM WELCOME: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at the New Delhi airport on Sunday.
New Delhi: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday called on the Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan at his residence here. It was described as a courtesy call. Mr. Karunanidhi was accompanied by the Union Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran. Earlier, talking to reporters at the airport on his arrival at Delhi, he asserted that Tamil Nadu would not give up its right for the formation of the Salem Railway Division with the bifurcation of the Palakkad Division. Mr. Karunanidhi, who was asked to comment on the Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan's opposition to the bifurcation of the Palakkad Division, said: "Tamil Nadu will not give up its right at any cost." Asked about Tamil Nadu's anticipation of the final award of the Cauvery Tribunal, he said, "We hope that the State's interests will be protected." On the purpose of his visit to the capital, he said tomorrow he would be meeting the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia and other officials to discuss about the State's plan outlay. He said he was confident that Tamil Nadu would get adequate share in the plan allocation. On the expectations in this year's Railway Budget, the Chief Minister said that he had already written to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for increased allocation of funds for the various pending projects in the State. He expressed the hope that the State would get sufficient fund allocation for completion of the projects.
