CHENNAI: The State Election Commission (SEC) will inform the Madras High Court about its decision on deploying Electronic Voting Machines for the Chennai Corporation polls on Tuesday. A submission to this effect was made by senior counsel for the SEC, when a public interest litigation petition, seeking a direction to the SEC to use EVMs for the civic polls, came up for hearing before the First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice K. Chandru on Monday. Earlier, senior counsel for the Election Commission of India, G. Rajagopal, told the Bench that it could make available adequate number of EVMs if the SEC made expeditious request. To this, G. Masilamani, representing the SEC, said the Commission required time to study the pros and cons of using EVMs and did not want to take a decision in haste. The Bench said the Commission could analyse the feasibility of using the EVMs and opt for its use if there was no other technical difficulty.
