KANNUR: The Health Department will ensure free health care facilities for the poor and the Scheduled Tribe people, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has said. Speaking at the district-level review of the National Rural Health Programme being launched in the district here on Monday, Ms. Sreemathy said free health care facilities would be provided to Scheduled Tribes at health care institutions such as the Regional Cancer Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. The Minister also said there was no move to upgrade the public health centres (PHC) in the State. Services of doctors and nurses were made available in all the PHCs and health centres in the district, she said adding that panchayats concerned and the District Medical Officer should initiate action if their services were not available.
