Congress may contest all U.P. seats: Gehlot

Tie-up with small parties not ruled out

Muzaffarnagar: The Congress is considering contesting all the 403 Uttar Pradesh Assembly seats in the upcoming elections, according to senior party leader Ashok Gehlot.

The party was gearing up to put up candidates for all the Assembly constituencies, said Mr. Gehlot, who is in-charge of the party affairs in U.P., here over the weekend.

He, however, did not rule out the possibility of alliance with "small, like-minded" parties.

On reports of a tie-up with Rashtriya Lok Dal led by Ajit Singh, which parted ways with the Mulayam Singh Yadav Ministry recently, he said the Congress was yet to decide on the issue.

A development in this regard could not be ruled out as in politics everything was possible, he said,

Earlier, addressing a party rally here, Mr. Gehlot criticised the Samajwadi Party-led Government for the Nithari and Gorakhpur incidents and held it responsible for ``ruining'' the law and order situation in the State.

Mr. Gehlot accused the Samajwadi Party and the BJP of backing communal tension in the State for political gains in the upcoming elections. - PTI.
