JAIPUR: The four-day International Stonemart-2007, which displayed stones and stone products from both national and international participants, ended here on Sunday with a call to bring the stone artefacts to global standards. Business deals worth crores of rupees were finalised during the fair. Rajasthan Industries Minister Narpat Singh Rajvi, addressing the valedictory function, announced that a global technology forum would be held in Jaipur from November 22 to 27 to provide a new identity to the mineral wealth and stone industry of the State.
Mr. Rajvi said events like this were extremely useful in providing exposure to participants. In addition to Indian participants, over 2,000 foreign delegates visited the mart, which was organised by the Centre for Development of Stones (CDoS) in association with the Federation
Several States like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh were represented in the fair through their official pavilions.
About 30 companies from China showcased their products in the country pavilion, while exhibitors also came from Russia, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Egypt, Spain, Turkey, Britain and Italy.
Mr. Rajvi gave away the S.P. Gupta Memorial Award to the SBIL Mines Pavilion for the best display of products. He also presented mementoes and certificates to various stalls selected in 23 categories.
The Minister said the stonemart organisers would be given an additional Rs. 50 lakhs for holding the fair next year.
The Director, Minerals Department, Andhra Pradesh, V.D. Rajgopal, said a stone trade fair would be organised in his State in October this year on the pattern of Stonemart.
