Janata Dal(U) wants official suspended

Special Correspondent

`Mere transfer of the police official is not enough'

  • Government urged to file cases against police personnel
  • `Nagamarpalli was killed in front of the police'

GULBARGA: The State unit of the Janata Dal (U) became the second major political party in the State to demand suspension of the transferred Superintendent of Police of Bidar district Roopa Divakar. She has been held responsible for the murder of Vijaykumar Nagamarpalli, son of former Minister Gurupadappa Nagamarpalli, on Friday last in Bidar.

President of the party and former Minister B. Somashekar addressing a press conference criticised the State Government for its response to the murder of Vijaykumar Nagamarpalli, who was shot and hanged to death in front of a team of police personnel present on the scene. Mere transfer of the police official was not enough and the Government should suspend her immediately, he added.

    `File cases'

Mr. Somashekar said the State Government should also initiate steps to file criminal cases against all the police personnel present in the scene for abetment of murder of Vijaykumar Nagamarpalli and order a judicial inquiry into the incident to bring out the truth.

He said the incident brought to fore the deteriorating law and order situation in the State. All the personnel present in the scene should be suspended immediately, he added.

Mr. Somashekar said the incident also revealed the lack of control of the State Government over the police administration.

    Lathicharge on Dalits

He said the same police official was responsible for the lathicharge on 100 Dalits in Bidar during their protests against the desecration of the statue of Dr. Ambedkar couple of months back.

The Dalits had been demanding the transfer of police official for the past two months, but the State Government had not cared to respond.
