Revenue set-up revamping opposed
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The BJP has opposed the proposal by the State Government to revamp the revenue set-up by instituting the office of the Village Revenue Officer (VRO).
In effect, the step taken by the Congress Government was no different from the previous TDP regime that followed the nodal system.
Both systems diluted the spirit of the Constitution as the identification of beneficiaries of welfare programmes at the village-level vested with VROs and nodal officers respectively, BJP State president B. Dattatreya told a news conference here on Monday.
Bandaru's poser
He wondered whether the Government was posting VROs with an eye on acquisition of lands. Mr. Dattatreya announced the setting up of a six-member committee by the BJP to study the Special Economic Zones in the State.
Meanwhile, the party spokesman, T. Rajeswara Rao, termed as unfortunate the rude behaviour against Vijayawada Mayor, Mallika Begum, at the meeting of the Municipal Corporation on Monday.
