Kozhikode: The city police on Monday registered a case against Malluwood.net on the charges of uploading the pirated version of the latest Malayalam movie Notebook on the Internet. Kozhikode City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay said a crime case had been registered at the Nadakkavu police station against the owner of Malluwood.net under Section 51 read with 63, 52 (A) read with 68 (A) of the Copy Right Act. This was based on a complaint filed by Sreekumar Menon, general manager, Grihalakshmi Films. Further investigations are being carried out, he said. Mr. Upadhyay said that the complainant had neither transferred nor assigned any rights pertaining to the exhibition of the film to anybody.
Copy right violation
The owner of the site (Malluwood.net) had violated the Copy Right Act by uploading the film for public viewing on the Internet.
Any route of public viewing of a movie without prior consent of the owner would attract offence under the Copy Right Act, he said.
