KOLLAM: The State Government has decided to grant title deeds to 25,000 landless people. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran told press persons here on Monday that the State-level inauguration of the programme would be by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan at a function to be held at Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. 3000 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district will be given the deeds on the occasion.

District-level functions will be organised for district-level distribution of title deeds. Mr. Rajendran said all the title deeds cleared by the State Government will be distributed by March 13.

"Though the State Government has announced title deeds for 25,000 persons, the figure will be more than that. In Thiruvananthapuram, the announced figure was 2000 but deeds are being given for an additional one thousand too," the Minister said.

The title deed distribution for Kollam district will be held on February 19, for Pathanamthitta on February 13, for Alappuzha on February 20, Kottayam on March 10, Eranakulam on March 2, for Idukki on March 3, Palakkad on February 24, for Thrissur on February 25, Malappuram on February 17, Kozhikode on March 5, for Kannur on February 10 for Wayanad on February 23 and Kasaragod on March 4.

The Minister said title documents for 19,300 Adivasi families living in various settlement colonies will be given before the first anniversary celebrations of the LDF Government. Similarly, 3,100 hectare of surplus land, acquired by the Government, will be distributed to the landless families belonging to the Scheduled Communities by April this year. After inspections by the Revenue and Forest Departments, families that had settled in the high ranges by January 1, 1977 will also be given title deeds subject to clearance from the Central Government, the Minister said.

He said the Government intends taking punitive measures against reclamation of paddy fields, unauthorised mining and reclamation of water bodies. The Minister also called upon the Revenue authorities to initiate immediate action against reclamation and unauthorised mining.
