Thiruvananthapuram: The dispute between the Government and the cement companies and the dealers was settled at talks held by Finance Minister Thomas Isaac with their representatives here on Monday. According to the terms of the settlement, the companies agreed to pay in full the tax lost by the Government due to the trade discount given to the dealers by them and the interest on it. The companies undertook to remit the entire tax as per bill without any reduction from the commencement of the VAT system before February 28. The Government offered not to take action against the dealers of such companies. The dealers undertook not to claim any additional input tax credit for the sale of cement at a price lower than that fixed by the companies.
