Thiruvananthapuram: A passenger call centre at the Thiruvananthapuram divisional railway headquarters and a Coach Guidance System at the central railway station will be commissioned on Tuesday. The call centre can be accessed using the BSNL telephone number 1331. Railway sources said this facility could be accessed from any part of the Thiruvananthapuram railway division that extends from Vallathol Nagar to Parasala at local call rates. With the commissioning of the call centre, at the headquarters in Thycaud, the Railways hope to ease the pressure of telephone enquiry at the information centres at various stations under the Thiruvananthapuram Division. The personnel of the commercial wing would man the call centre. The centre has been set up at a cost of Rs.60 lakh. Railway sources said the setting up of the call centre was a major step towards enhancing the consumer-friendly image of the Railways. The coach guidance system is a computer controlled display system. It will provide passengers clear information on the coach position of trains at the central railway station. The facility would enable the passengers to reach the designated coach directly without enquiring at the counters. The facility has been provided at 44 spots. Southern Railway General Manager Thomas Varghese would commission both the facilities on Tuesday in the presence of Divisional Railway Manager S. Vijayakumaran.
