Woman allegedly kills husband

Dehra Dun: A woman has allegedly stoned her husband to death in Bageshwar district after a minor tiff, police said on Monday. Kalavati Devi (45) attacked her husband Harish Chandra Singh Gariya (55) with a large stone after a minor tiff between them yesterday, they said. Kalavati was apparently upset with poverty and the drunken behaviour of Gariya, who ran a teashop in the village, they said.

Two labourers killed

Srinagar: Two labourers, including a Nepalese, were killed in an explosion in Leh town of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, a police spokesman said. The labourers -- Ghulam Mohammed Malik of Chuchkut and Brij Sunwar of Nepal -- were fiddling with scrap at a workshop when the explosion occurred, he said adding the cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Jewellery looted

Kanpur: In a daring robbery gold ornaments worth Rs 27 lakhs were looted in the busy Birhana Road area here on Monday, police said. Manoj Soni, owner of Rajasthan Jewellers, had sent his servant Sanjay Gupta with the ornaments weighing nearly three kilogrammes to one M. K. Jakhodia, a bullion agent. While going to Jakhodia's second-storeyed office, two miscreants threw chilly powder on Sanjay's eyes and ran away with the bag containing the jewellery. Sanjay was admitted to a hospital.

Held with fake notes

Muzaffarnagar: Police have arrested a person and recovered fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 50,000 from his possession here on Monday. Acting on a tip off, police arrested Atul Kumar of Moradabad from a bus stand on the Delhi-Dehra Dun National Highway when he was coming from Saharanpur after supplying the fake notes, Superintendent of Police S. S. Baghel said.

Cops suspended

Indore: A Station In-charge was on Monday attached to police lines while five others were suspended for failing to reach the spot -- despite an alert by the control room -- where a man was allegedly beaten to death. The man, identified as Chotia, was allegedly beaten to death by some persons in the Rathi Nagar area last night following an altercation over eve-teasing. The control room alerted the Airport Police station in-charge about the case but, they failed to identify the spot and reported back that everything was normal, police said here.

Besides Station In-charge D. S. Ranawat, two head constables, one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a constable were also suspended, police said, adding probe was going on in the case.

Minor raped

Muzaffarnagar: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Sisoli village near here, police said on Monday. The victim was allegedly abducted yesterday by one Manoj Kumar, a class 11th student, who later raped her, they said. A case has been registered in this regard and the victim has been sent for medical examination, they said.
