Swamy asks Minister to withdraw remarks

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Monday demanded that Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy withdraw his remarks against the judiciary.

He said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Mr. Veerasamy had "disgraced themselves in the eyes of the public."

"Dismiss government"

If Mr. Karunanidhi failed to apologise and withdraw his statement, the Centre must invoke Article 356 of the Constitution and dismiss the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government.

He threatened to move the Madras High Court to take suo motu cognisance of the contempt of court arising from the remarks.
