CHENNAI: Students undergoing teacher training at the School of Education, Pacific Lutheran University in the United States recently visited Alpha Matriculation School as part of their global study programme. Professor Vidya Thirumurthy accompanied the 12-member group.

The study tour was organised to introduce the teacher trainees to the four-tier school system in India and to give them an opportunity to compare teaching methodologies and facilitate sharing of best practices.

Trainees observed classroom sessions and compared text books used in India and the U.S.

They also observed activities at the school's mathematics, science and language labs. Chairperson of Alpha Matriculation Grace George said the interactive sessions were very useful. The trainees earlier visited schools in Erode and a few other schools in Chennai.

Nearly 400 National Cadet Corps cadets from 13 schools recently took the `A' certificate examination for junior division cadets at P.S. Higher Secondary School. The examination included theory (such as map reading, seasons training, leadership and first-aid) and a practical component (march past, commanding and range of rifle).

The examination was conducted under the supervision of Col. S.S. Shekhawat.

Head Master of the school B. Raghuveeran said the experience gained in the NCC wing would encourage students to join the Indian Army, Navy or Air Force later.
