THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collector N. Ayyappan has issued directives to the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) and officials of the `Theerapatham' scheme to recommence the work of laying pipelines at Vallakkadavu junction. The huge pit dug on December 14, 2006, for providing an interconnection facility at the junction had been lying open all these days, posing a threat to pedestrians and vehicular traffic. Mr. Ayyappan inspected the site on Monday evening, along with officials of the KWA and the contractor in-charge of executing the work. The contractor, initially, told the Collector that local people were obstructing work at the site. However, the local people who had gathered at the site told Mr. Ayyappan that they were all for immediate recommencement of the work. They also promised that they would not prevent the contractor from completing the pipe-laying work on the site. The Collector also told the local people that he would look into the police complaint filed against them by an Assistant Executive Engineer of the KWA who was present on the site on the night of December 14, 2006 and that he would see to it that they were not harassed on the basis of the complaint.
